Date of Boot Camp Attended: Country Manor Boot Camp – June 20-27 2009
Occupation: Pauline Doctor and Anna Student
The main reason we booked on:
Pauline: “I was worried about my daughter who had gone to university in another city last year. She had lost weight but her eating and exercise habits were bad, she often did not eat all day and then had takeaways and alcohol in the evenings. She did a bit of running but did not structure her exercise properly. I thought if I took her to New You Boot Camp she would learn to understand healthy nutrition and exercise for life (not just to be thin) but I didn’t realise I would learn so much! It was lovely spending time with my daughter and seeing her getting on with the others in the group as an adult.”
Anna: “Mum suggested going on holiday together as we hadn’t been seeing much of each other as I was studying in Manchester. We are both always dieting and neither of us fancied piling on the pounds on an indulgent beach holiday at the beginning of the Summer. When Mum suggested New You Boot camp I was very pleased, as I had become a bit obsessive after losing weight that year and saw this as an excellent way to drop a few more pounds, despite already being a size 8.”
Your Experience At New You Boot Camp ? How has it changed your life?:
Pauline: “For the first time since I was about 12 I have gone out and bought size 10 trousers (river island), all my clothes falling off me. Why has it taken me until I reached 52 to sort out my diet and exercise regime? I am carrying my lunch as usual today (home made soup, rye bread, little box of nuts and fruit as a snack) and avoid all the temptations in the work kitchen (biscuits/sweets/cakes). I have taken to doing lots of weights, I find my body is quite resistant to running as I am used to doing this but adding the weights has been amazing, especially for my middle! I am also enjoying bike riding with a friend and may do some triathlon if I can squeeze it in as i enjoy running and swimming too. For me I feel as if I now have a whole new life!”
Anna: “New You Boot Camp has dramatically altered my eating habits which has had a huge knock on effect to the rest of my life. Previously I had lost weight by filling up on coffee and diet coke, until I gave in and ate junk (usually after a few drinks!). I used to have to run in the morning because it was the only time of the day I had enough energy. I was always exhausted and I never wanted to socialise and my housemates were hassling me to eat more. Looking back, I did not realise how out of control it had got! The nutritionist at New You Boot Camp made me aware of the detrimental effects this was having on my body and helped me to devise a new eating plan to re-boot my metabolism and wean me off caffeine. I have stuck to this and it gives me piles of energy. I’m back to being chatty and full rather than hungry and snappy, without putting on a pound!”
What would you say to anyone thinking of booking on?:
Anna: “Definitely do it. Sometimes its important to step back from the “norm†and to concentrate on yourself instead of putting everyone else first. Just sitting down and talking to a nutritionist for an hour had such a therepeutic effect. It was the most challenging week of my life, but the feeling of pride at the end is incredible. The amount your fitness and strength increases in a week is so dramatic. It was also interesting to note how everyone, of all different shapes and sizes and age, had completely different skills which are challenged due to the huge variety of sports. I, for example, was a good runner, but my 52 yer old mother was too good for me to partner with in boxing! A skill she did not realise she had before this week at New You Boot Camp.”
Have you gone on to lose any further weight or set any goals for your fitness:
Pauline: I have gone on to lose 2 stone and at the age of 52 and am finally in a size 10! I also have entered my first sprint triathlon in Womborne on 28th April 2010
Anna: “I have not put on any weight despite eating three big meals a day and having snacks and treats. I have learnt the secret of eating and wearing the clothes that I want, which I previously thought was just luck! I have incorporated more weights into my fitness, as I have learnt that your body gets used to cardio and muscle burns so many more calories than fat.*
