“Annabella, you’ll lose weight when you want to.” said Kate, my personal trainer as she increased the speed on the treadmill. I looked at her blankly. What did she mean? Of course I want to lose weight! I was in my late twenties and had spent most of my teens and adult life ‘wanting to lose weight’.
That was almost twenty years ago when I was a lawyer in London earning great money but unhappy with how I looked, swallowing my emotions, pushing them down along with a whole lot of food! Momentary feelings of euphoria were quickly followed by feelings of guilt and shame. I wanted to look better but I also wanted to feel better. I wanted to fit in to clothes I loved as opposed to ones available in my size. I wanted to be able to eat what I wanted and stop when I’d had enough. I didn’t want to feel controlled by food. But instead I would pursue a pointless game of yo-yo dieting – shedding weight, getting oh so close to my goal and then sabotaging my efforts and regaining the weight and a couple of extra pounds for good measure. I was an emotional eater. Sound familiar?
The situation continued for a couple of more decades and it was only when I discovered rapid transformational therapy (RTT) that I finally understood Kate’s words to me that day. I discovered this incredible therapy that promised me that I could shed weight. I lost 10 kgs in a few weeks easily and effortlessly. I had a normal relationship with food again. I could eat what I wanted and resist cravings. I could eat and then forget about food for hours. I felt better about myself, happier and more energized. Finally, I felt enough.
I was so impressed that I knew then and there that a career change was ahead and I had to train to be an RTT therapist so that I could help other women. Just. Like. Me. And I did.
You see it’s not your fault. Your critical mind will decide you want to lose weight. But due to beliefs formed in your childhood and early teenage years, shedding that weight may for whatever reason, feel unsafe to your subconscious mind – the part of your brain that governs all your behaviours and habits. And so it will do all it can to stop you. To keep you in your zone of familiarity and away from the unfamiliar. Slim and happy.
What is important to understand is that your feelings will always trump logic as they are so much more powerful . What drives us to overeat are our feelings. I need it. I want it. I must have it. It will make me feel happier. .It will stop the sadness or the loneliness I’m feeling. Overeating is almost always an emotional issue and dieting won’t help you with that. RTT can , through establishing the root cause of the emotional issue.
You have to change the feelings and not the diet.
Through RTT, I discovered the root cause of why I was sabotaging my efforts to release the weight. I had developed early – my last year of primary. As a 10 year old girl looking like a teenager, the unwanted attention from older males felt terrifying. Subconsciously, I decided that it would be safer to make myself ‘less attractive’ and to desexualize myself. The weight was a form of protection. My subconscious had good intentions. It was trying to protect me. Now that belief was age appropriate when I was a pre-teen but as a grown adult it was holding me back from having the body, health and fitness I wanted.
Unless you change those beliefs that were formed early in your life, they will continue to sabotage your efforts to shed weight and will always triumph over decisions made with your logical mind. When you change those beliefs for more age appropriate empowering ones, everything becomes available to you – the body you wanted, motivation to exercise, loving relationships, confidence and a heightened sense of self worth. Because you feel enough, you are naturally inclined to eat healthy nutritious food and work out because you know you’re worth it. And you are.
RTT can help anyone who has an unhealthy relationship with food or who can’t find the motivation to exercise or who lacks confidence or a feeling of enoughness. It helps you to finally break those negative patterns and habits by creating new beliefs. No willpower required.
